UCM calls for `white paper` on border fencing issue

IMPHAL, September 11: The United Committee Manipur (UCM), while re-affirming its stand to protect the territory of the state has demanded the government to bring out a white paper to clear the current border dispute along the Indo-Myanmar border.  

Speaking to media persons, Y Nabachandra, president UCM, revealed that the demand was part of its six resolutions taken during a technical seminar held yesterday.

The seminar was attended by representatives of different CSOs, resource persons, he said adding that it was the follow up of a seminar held after having visited the disputed border on August 8, informed Y Nabachandra.

Briefing on the resolutions taken by UCM, the UCM president said that the gathering agreed upon to pressure the government to call an emergency assembly session take a consensus decision to end the imbroglio which is nearing an impasse.

It further resolved to stand firm against any international border fencing work along the border until the dispute is settled, he said.

Moreover, the meet also resolved to constitute a co-ordinating body comprising of different CSO, ethnic community leaders under which it would prepare a mass public movement if things turn against the will of the people.

Maintaining that both the state and central governments are not clear on the boundary issue, he urged the governments to work for the common interest of the people.
