IMPHAL, October 22: Withstanding pressures and threats from various groups, development work has been taken up in Chingai Assembly constituency using love and forgiveness instead of force and power, stated MLA MK Preshaw Shimaray.
The Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly was speaking at a one-day block level political workers’ conference at Tribal Research Institute, Chingmeirong.
The situation in Chingai is most critical among the assembly constituencies in the state as 11 ADC members and lone legislator have been restricted from entering the constituency by a powerful rival group, he stated.
Still, we are trying to continue implementation of the development programmes in the area without resorting to forceful confrontation and using the power in his command in dealing with them. In the scenario of a confrontation, the result will not be good for both sides as the rivals cannot last even a single moment before the 30 thousand state’s security force, he stated.
Instead of engaging in such acts, we will like to implement development programmes slowly but steadily with the message of love and forgiveness, he stated. We have heard the grievances of the hill people of Ukhrul district including those from Chingai AC and the state government has been apprised of it, he stated. He along with members of the ADC has discussed the shortages in Chingai AC with Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy CM Gaikhangam and officials of the departments concerned.
We must understand that the Congress government is feeding the hill people through MGNREGS scheme. Other political parties have no consideration for the poor people of India and the eagerness to start such schemes, he added.
Carrying out the field works in the constituency is not an easy task due to the unsafe atmosphere.
But the government did not remain a silent spectator and the people have eventually received the fruits of their hard work, he stated. He recounted the cases of gun attack, physical assaults and kidnapping of Congress workers during the last Assembly elections, adding that as a reward of their sincerity, their representative has been elevated to the position of deputy speaker.
The chief guest of the function vice president of MPCC Th Mangibabu said that we need to know the basic principal of the Congress party and its constituent bodies and ideology of the party.
Guest of honor of the function T Manga Vaiphei MLA Henglep AC and general secretary of Administration MPCC said that people always charged that “government did not take initiative for development of the hills people.” Actually, it is wrong in a sense.
In the last meeting with the team of 14th Finance Commission that visited the state, the five-member delegation of Congress party mentioned at least two points of demand for special attention for the people of hills about road connectivity and water supply schemes in the hill and remote areas of some valley.
PS Vangam president BCC Chingai, Parliamentary Secretary Victor Keishing, T Manga Vaiphei general secretary MPCC, Chaltonlien Amo Chairman Hill Area Development Committee, John Raleng Chairman ADC Ukhrul also attended the programme.
