IMPHAL, October 22: The National Human Rights Commission comprising of the Chairperson KG Balkrishna and another 19 members arrived in Imphal today for the commission’s scheduled session meet on October 24.
The Chairperson with another two members will meet Irom Chanu Sharmila at JNIMS hospital on Wednesday.
The NHRC team consisting of twenty persons inclusive of Chairperson Balkrishnan, members Cyriac Joseph, Satyabrata Pal is to conduct a divisional bench sitting at Classic Hotel on October 24. They are to examine certain cases relating to Department of Social Welfare (Integrated Child Development Scheme) and the plight of fishers at Loktak Lake in regard to burning down of houses built on the floating bio-masses among other human rights violation cases, a reliable source stated.
The NHRC team consists of SC Sinha, Anil Pradhan and Kanwaljit Deol (DG, Investigations), (Presenting Officer), CK Tyagi and BP Vishwakarma, DIG Viplav Kumar Choudhary, Joint secretary(Law) AK Parashar among other supporting NHRC staff.
The scheduled program of the team is to meet Irom Sharmila on Wednesday and later visit Chrachandpur Hospital. On the way back, the team will visit Loktak lake.
On Thursday, the sitting of the division bench will commence from 11 am onwards and the NHRC will address the issues which have been put up to their notice. On Friday, ie, October 25, the team will meet representatives of civil organizations, Chief Secretary, DGP, jail officials etc. A press meet with media persons is also scheduled afterwards.
The Chairperson was received by Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga and DGP , MK Das at Classic hotel this afternoon.
