`Schools need to take major role in safeguarding language`

    IMPHAL, October 14: A six day workshop on Manipuri Terminology Building was inaugurated today at the Conference Hall of the State Council for Education Research and Training, SCERT Lamphelpat.

    The workshop is being sponsored by the National Translation Mission CIIL, MHRD, Govt. of India, Mysore in collaboration with the Directorate of Languages Planning and Implementation govt of Manipur.

    The training program will be participated by 40 professors, including both retired and present of Mathematics, history, political Science and Philosphy.

    During the six day workshop, the terminology of Manipuri words concerning their subject area and all such words which are approved will be submitted to the language department.

    Addressing the opening day today, Dr RK Nimai said the effort is late but a well-intentioned one and needs to be encouraged.

    Schools and other educational institutes should also take up major role in safeguarding our language, he said.

    There is also a need for the children to be provided trainings on the language, he said.
