IMPHAL, November 21: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), was marred by another controversial death of a woman related to a delivery case.
Patient’s party of the deceased blamed the hospital authority for the unfortunate incident alleging that the death happened owing to negligence of the hospital staff. However, no officials were available for comment on the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Keithelakpam Devjani Devi, 33 years, wife of K Netajit of Sagolband Tera Lukram Leirak.
Since her prenatal period the deceased consulted Dr Jitendra of RIMS.
Reports said that Devjani was admitted at the RIMS Gynaecology ward yesterday at around 7:30 am.
Devjani was reportedly taken to labour room around 7:30 pm on the same time and gave birth to a boy at around 9:30 pm without any complication. Relatives informed that this was the second birth of the deceased.
But, minutes later she started to bleed profusely following which the patient party apprised the doctors on duty regarding her condition but the staffs on duty gave no attention, it alleged.
With her conditions deteriorated the doctors finally rushed and checked her around 10:45 pm. However the concerned doctor Jitendra turned up at midnight only to inform that she was in a very critical condition.
At about 2:15 am she was declared dead by the doctors.
The patient party further alleged that despite their attempts to meet the concerned staffs no was available. They waited for an official explanation till around 9:30 am today.
Finally around 10 am today family members and representatives of the local club from the neighborhood of the deceased met with the superintendent of RIMS. However, the meeting remained inconclusive.
Enraged by the loss and the reported indifferent attitude of the concerned doctors, a mob stormed the residence of Dr Jitendra situated at Sagolband Kangabam Leikai. But, timely intervention of the police averted any untoward incidents.
