IMPHAL, November 16: The mortal remains of Wahengbam Ton was cremated at Thangmeiband Lairenhanjaba Lekai today evening. The body was taken from RIMS mortuary after the JAC held a conclusive talk with the Chief Minister today.
The meeting held at the CM secretariat was attended by Deputy CM, Gaikhangam, MPCC secretary Jyotin Waikhom, three JAC members and five family members of the deceased.
Sources said that, the meeting concluded following assurance from the state government that necessary aid will be given to the family members and the accused persons will be booked as per the law.
However, the death being outcome of a criminal case could not be eligible for ex-gratia. The government had taken the case seriously as the incident occurred among different communities , the source added.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day locals of Thangmeiband area today staged a mass sit in protest cum public meeting demanding befitting punishment for all involved in the killing of local youth Wahengbam Ton at Ragailong on November 13.
The mass demonstration was held along the Thangmeiband road by blocking the western side of road opposite to the THAU ground and was organized by the JAC formed in connection with the killing.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the protest demonstration, a woman protestor said that the inhuman and brutal killing of Wahengbam Ton by a group of people at Raigailong is strongly condemnable and all involved should be punished at the earliest.
She further demanded the state including the police to act appropriately against all found guilty of the heinous crime at the earliest so that such incident which could fan unrest amongst the different communities living harmoniously for the past several years are not repeated in the future.
Later in the day, JAC members and family members met the state Chief Minister and submitted a memorandum on the killing.
Meanwhile, it may be mentioned that the dead body of Wahengbam Ton alias Thembung son of Priyachandra of Thangmeiband Lairenhanjaba Leikai is still lying unclaimed at the RIMS morgue even though post mortem was conducted on November 14 last.
23 year old W Ton was killed in an attack by a group of people on November 13 around 6.30 pm at Ragailong ground when he had gone there to meet his girlfriend. Police have also arrested five persons involve in the incident.
