IMPHAL, November 2: The laborers of the Storage Depot of the Consumer Affair, Food and Public Distribution (CAF & PD) have today called a press conference at Manipur Press Club at 2:00 pm.

During the press conference, Romendrajit Moirangcha, general secretary and spokesperson of Consumer Affair, Food & Public Distribution Labors Welfare Association has narrated their long pending grievances saying that the labourers have been working since the last 20 years at the minimum labour charge Rs 0.75 which was fixed in the year 1988 by the Minister N Bihari Singh.

He further said that the labourers were working without acknowledgement of the concern department under one contractor with lots of shortages like rest room, bath room, urinal etc.

In such situation, the secretary made the following demand viz, provide equal facilities to the labourers of CAF & PD with those of the labourers of FCI godown at Sangaiprou; arrange urinal, bath room, rest room for the labourers; withdraw monthly entitlement regularly by the respective Assembly Constituencies; timely interfere by the officials of CAF & PD when there is a problem of the labourers; acknowledge the service of the labourers by issuing departmental identity card etc.

If the demands are not addressed by the concern authority, then the labourers may withdraw service from the FCS godown. At that moment, no other labourers are allowed to do the work so that no one can be a victim of the this labour issue.
