Three killed in Khongjom highway mishap

IMPHAL, November 13: In a highway mishap occurred at Khongjom along the National Highway 102 at 11 am claimed three lives and at least ten persons including three women injured.

A source from the spot said that the mishap took place at Chingtham Lakhai in Khongjom Phundrei when Imphal bound passenger bus (register No. MN 04/A – 8078) has knocked down an unregistered one Yamaha FZ motor cycle while the motor cycle was crossing the National Highway 102 and the same bus collided with a Moreh bound Maruti Van (register No. MN 03A/2468) after which the bus along with the Van skidded upto the crossing of Phundrei approach road laying vehicles upside down.

The collision killed the motorist and a passenger of the Van on the spot while another passenger of the same Van died at the district hospital, Thoubal. It is said that among the death of the Van included the Van driver.

The name of the motorist is Okram Sanajoba, 27, son of Chandra of Khekman Turel Wangma Mayai Leikai. He is said to be a VDF personnel posted at Wangjing Police Out Post while the passenger who died on the spot is still unidentified and the one who died at the hospital is Moirangthem Jeeten, 32, son of Gulamani of Moirang Khunou, according to his I Card.

The names of the injured persons, according to the casualty register of the District Hospital are Ksh Achouba of Khongman; Ksh Jamma, 37 of Pallel; Wapithong, 37 of Pallel; Basanta, 24 of Huikap; Miss Babita, 40 of Khongman; RK Johnson, 46 of 8th MR Leikul; E Lekhachandra, 32 of Hiyangthang; Iboyaima, 49 of Kangla; Seimingla, 32 of Moreh respectively. Seiminglen is the one who rides on the Motor cycle. He was referred to RIMS.

Kakching PS has registered a case in this regard and the three dead bodies were deposited to JNIMS morgue.

In the mean time, two students who returning from tuition in a Honda Activa are injured when an AR truck knocked them down at 10 am at Yairipok. The injured students are identified as Kh Sajib, 20 of Yairipok and A Naoba, 20 of Yambem and they were referred to RIMS hospital after having given first aid.
