IMPHAL, December 5: A discussion program on “Domestic Violence and its Impact on the Family Community and Society” as part of International Fortnight observation Protesting Violence Against Women was held today at the Manipur Press Club.
The observation is being organized by the Women Action for Development in collaboration with United Mission Manipur (UNM-M); Women Action for Development (WAD); New Life Foundation (NLF); People Platform Secretariat (PPS); Self Support Group (SSG); Conflict Widow Forum (CoWF); Village Women Co-ordinating Committee (VWCOC) and North East People Forum (NEPF); Domestic Violence Society Forum (DVSF) and Women Empowerment for Justice (WEJ) at Manipur Press Club today.
Speaking at the observance associate editor, Imphal Free Press, Chitra Ahanthem said that media is only a medium to educate or provide knowledge to the public about the gender ideology and patriarchy system.
Violence against women is witnessed in all parts of the world and such kind of violence affects the women both psychological and physically, she said before adding that intolerance towards such acts will always weakened the steps to development.
She further said that in the state various kind of activists are conducting awareness campaings.
She further added that due to lack of awareness on the issue amongst the general public, the outcome is always bad.
She appealed to all the people to unite and work togehter towards eradicating violence against women and the subsequent blame game.
