Monitoring committee for central schemes on the anvil


IMPHAL, December 27: A committee to monitor the centrally sponsored schemes currently implemented in the State is to be set up. According to the Planning Commission of India, there has been a restructuring of the existing central sponsored schemes.

There will be core guidelines in respect of each scheme which will be applicable to all states. The total number of central sponsored schemes is 66.

Further, modifications to the core guidelines will be permitted based on specific proposals from the concerned state. For this purpose, the commission has constituted an inter-ministerial committee co-chaired by secretary of Planning Commission and secretary of the Department of Expenditure. The chief secretary will also be a member of the committee.

In the regard, the state Planning Department has requested government departments to furnish state specific suggestions proposed for modification. Some proposals already received from some departments have been communicated to the Planning Commission, a source said.

The Planning Commission has also sought comments on the feasibility of setting up of Monitoring Committee for all central sponsored schemes on the line of District Vigilance Committee chaired by a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha in each rural and urban constituencies.
