Syam Sharma`s Pony grabs top honour


IMPHAL, December 24: The 8th film festival award for the best feature film was given to Yaishkul Pakhang Angaoba directed by Homen D’Wai and the best documentary film to Pony directed by Aribam Syam Sharma. Hijam Bala and Bony were conferred with the best actress and actor awards respectively.

Speaking at the function Chairperson of National School of Drama, Ratan Thiyam said that while making film one should know the objective and should possess relentless commitment.

The films produced in the state could not present the right expression in the scenes which is due to lack of essential components and lack of knowledge in producing a film, he said and added that most of the films produced in the state are mediocre and need improvement.

He further said that most of the music of the films too are mediocre. To make a masterpiece one need to instill creativity into the music which can be extracted from folk music, culture and tradition, he said. Ratan added that in Manipur there are lots of elements missing for the development of films like establishment of film schools, archives for films and market.

Art and Culture, commissioner, Dr RK Nimai Singh spoke about the need for structuring the films and relationship between commercial success and maintenance of quality of films.
