Fire destroys properties worth around Rs 4 lakh


IMPHAL January 14: Property worth around four lakh rupees of a house were raze to the ground in a fire at Uchol Mayai leikai under Yairipok poice station Thoubal District today at around 11 am.

A fire broke out at the residence of Kshetrimayum Kanchaicha, 48 son of (L) Gulamjah of Uchol Mayai Leikai just before noon today at around 11 am.

The fire is believed to have ignited by an electrical short circuit.

The fire raze the five rooms of the house, 15 bags of paddy, furniture, TV, Almirah and other household items, informed a source.

Soon after the fire broke out, police teams from Andro, Ngariyan and Yairipok rushed to the spot and helped the state Fire service in controlling the fire.

The fire was finally put off at around 1.30pm.

On the other hand locals of the Uchol Mayai leikai expressed their desire for a fire substation in their locality to avert any major disaster.

The local also said that the nearest fire sub-station is located 27 kilometer away at Thoubal and as such the fire tenders takes as much about an hour to reach Uchol, Andro, Yairipok and other adjourning villages when a fire broke out in the these places he said.
