IMPHAL, February 28: Home Minister Gaikhangam, today informed the house that the additional SP of Wangoi police station, L Sanajaoba Imphal West, has been appointed as the inquiry officer to probe in the controversial death of Thoudam Digbijoy, who was found dead hanging inside the Wangoi Police Station.
Gaikhangam gave the statement during the ongoing Manipur Legislative Assembly, in response to a question raised by Wangoi MLA, Lukhoi, during the zero hour yesterday alleging foul play in the death.
The home Minister continued that the same day (when digbijoy was found dead) a Magisterial inquest was conducted by L Pouralung Kabui, SDC, executive Magistrate Imphal West, in the presence of the family members of the deceased, Dr Supriya Forensic medicine RIMS and L Bilashini Chanu Scientific officer, with the video coverage permit.
As per the findings of the inquest there was no external injury found and the body was evacuated deposited to the RIMS morgue. However, internal injury will be detected as and when post mortem is done, informed Gaikhangam.
It may be recalled that Digbijoy was arrested on February 23, last by the Wangoi police following a complaint filed by the family of a woman whom he had eloped with even though he was already married and have three children.
Later he was found death dead in a suspicious manner on February 26 insde the Wangoi Police lock-up with his shirt making a noose around his neck and tied to the door.
