KANGPOKPI, February 24: Most of the western countries in the world are developed countries because the people have high adventurous spirit, opined Chungkhokai Doungel, former state Finance minister, before adding that adventurous spirit is drastically lacking among the Indians.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the 2nd Veteran Sports Meet 2014 organized by Sadar Hills District Sports Veteran Association, Manipur under the theme “Peace, Unity and Harmony” at Bongmol Village playground today.

While speaking C Doungel continued that adventurous spirit gives a peaceful unification and harmonious attitude in the society which is significantly important in making society, land and the people develop.

Emphasizing on the importance of games and sports in an individual’s life and society, he asserted that games and sports is an important tool to refresh the body and mind when it has been followed accordingly with disciplined.

The inaugural function was also attended by retd IRS Tongmang Haokip, and special contractor Hautinlen Vaiphei, chief of S Molnom as guest of honour and functional president respectively.

While the chief guest hoisted the sports meet flag, MDC Autonomous District Council Sadar Hills Thangjamang Kipgen who is popularly known as Maneithangja, well-known for his number “Jingkar Bongnoi” sang the “Veteran theme song.”

The opening match between Haipi Area Veteran and J.Songtun Area Veteran was kicked-off after the chief guest declared the meet open.

J Songtun Area Veteran defeated Haipi Area Veteran by a solitary goal in the opening match.

The winning goal for J.Songtun Area Veteran came in the 14 min. of the first half from Lamseh, Jersey No.2.

The inaugural function was also attended by EM, MDCs of ADC Sadar Hills, CEO, SHADC/Kpi, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, Sadar Hills Women Union, Kangpokpi Town Committee and various village chiefs and chairman of the adjoining areas.

According to the organizing committee the sports meet will continued till March 6.
