CM moves supplementary grants amounting to Rs 532.22 crore

IMPHAL, February 24: The chief minister of Manipur, who is also holding the finance portfolio, today moved supplementary grants for the fiscal year 2013-14 amounting to Rs 532.22 crore during the opening session of the seventh session of the 10 Assembly.

The grants seeking Rs 541.36 crore covers 35 demands and 2 appropriations. Of the total 9.14 crore is charged on the consolidated fund of the state and Rs 532.22 crore to be voted by the house.

The Chief Minister while tabling the demands for grants 2014-15 (vote on account) informed that house that due to the impending 16th Lok Sabha election the plan size for the fiscal year (2014-15) could not be finalised.

However he said that the state Government proposed for the present, to seek a vote on account to enable the Government to discharge its responsibilities and to meet all essential expenditure during the first four months of the fiscal year.

Chief Minister further informed that despite the challenges posed by resource constraint and subdued growth outlook at the national level, the state government have been able to sustain the growth momentum.

He pointed out that as per the latest advance estimate for 2012-13 the state’s economy is expected to grow by about 9 percent. “It is significant that we have been able to do this despite financial difficulties. We believe that, with prudent financial management and more targeted sectoral investments in the private and Government sector, we can help the economy frow in a sustainable manner. We expect to maintain the growth momentum after we finalise our annual plan in consultation with the planning commission”, added Ibobi.
