MOREH, February 11: The deputy chief minister Gaikhangam has today inaugurated Eklavya Model Residential School at Chikim Veng in Moreh in a function presided by MTDC chairman T Manga Vaiphei.
The function was attended by parliamentary secretary for Tribal Affairs and Hills Victor Keishing, Tamenglong MLA D Korungthang, Chandel ADC chairman Lukhosei Zou as guests of honour respectively.
Addressing the function as chief guest, Gaikhangam said that the Eklavya Model Residential School is a meaningful project of the government of India adding that the students of the under privileged SC/ST will be enrolled and provided necessary study materials free of cost so that they can encounter modern challenges and competitive world.
The deputy CM added that the school is co-educational starting from Class VI to XII appealing the general public of the area to protect the school against all odds.
He said that the hostels of both the boys and girls will be inaugurated separately after having provided finishing touched and the concerned engineer and contractors are instructed in this regards.
In his speech, D Korungthang advised the engineers and contractors to maintain quality while implementing government projects and schemes.
He further urged the government to make the school functional by providing necessary infrastructures including the fencing of the school compound.
Victor Keishing and T Manga Vaiphei also appealed to the public to protect government property as government alone could not protect public properties.
Robert Singh Kshetrimayum, ADC Moreh also attended the inaugural function of the residential school along with various community and civil society leaders.
