BISHNUPUR, February 11: The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) and College of Social Work (CSW), Manipur has today jointly organised a legal awareness program at Mayangngamba Shanglen in Bishnupur district.
Oinam MLA and Public Account Committee chairman Dr I Ibohalbi, MSCW chairperson Dr L Ibetombi Devi attended the function as chief guest and president while MSCW member H Piteswori; CSW director S Saratchandra Sharma; Bishnupur District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Arambam Kameshwar Singh as guests of honour respectively.
Around 200 individuals participated in the legal awareness program.
During the function, DSWO A Kameshwar said that the welfare programs and schemes are implemented through various government organisations and agencies under an Act or law and people should try to get the best out of the welfare schemes by fully understand about it.
He further appealed to the participants of going back from program mid-session and added that people could visit the social welfare office for any kind of help and grievances.
Addressing the gathering as guest of honour, Dr I Ibohalbi expressed that the people of NE region of India have been discriminated in Delhi and other major cities of India, however, we should not feel annoyed for this, or India will be disintegrated like the Soviet Union.
He further said that the Indian government should try to prevent such unwanted attacks on the people of the region, he said.
In her presidential speech, De Ibetombi said atrocities are being meted out to women.
During the function, the lecturer of the College of Social Work Ph Indira Devi and advisor of the college S Meghachadra also delivered lectures as resource persons on the topic ‘women and reproductive rights’ and ‘women friendly laws’ respectively.
