IMPHAL, February 11: A meeting between All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) and All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) in the presence of North East Students’ Union (NESO) official was held in Guwahati on 10th February with Mr. Samuel B Jyrwa, Chairman of NESO on the Chair.
Besides him, NESO`s Secretary General S.Prakash Singh, Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya, Advisor, NESO,Topon Kumar Gogoi,Coordinator of AASU to NESO,Pritam Sonam, Coordinator of AAPSU to NESO,Augustev Jyrwa, Gen Secy, KSU were present in the meeting. All together 23 officials attended the meeting.
This was stated in a press release by Mr. Samuel B Jyrwa, Chairman, and S.Prakash Singh, Secretary General of NESO.
During the meeting, the incident at New Delhi recently leading to the death of one Arunachali student, Shri Nido Tania, the physical assault of two girls from Manipur and the rape of one minor girl from Manipur as well as the prevailing border tension between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam were discussed, it stated.
NESO has taken a serious note of the Delhi Government and central Government for the failing to protect the people of north east residing in the national capital. The Govt. should ensure a sense of security to the North Eastern people. The govt. should enact anti racial law to protect the people of North East. The culprits must be booked immediately. Police personnel must be more proactive, the press release further added.
With regard to the border tension between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, NESO strongly condemned the incident of killing 11 Assamese people and missing of 3 Assamese people at Tarasso. Both the Government of Assam and Arunachal are responsible for the prevailing tension related to Tarasso incident as they could not protect the people. This border issue has been there since long time and NESO has requested to the State Governments as well as Central government to solve the issue. If the issue had been solved in time by the govt., such incident could not have taken place.
The meeting resolved that NESO will organize an agitation at Guwahati on 14th February in front of Raj Bhawan from 11 am to 2 p.m. And on the same day the member units of NESO – All Assam Students Union (AASU), All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Nagaland Students’ Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Paul (MZP), Tripura Students Federation (TSF) will submit memorandum to the Hon’ble President of India and Hon’ble Prime Minister of India through their respective State Governors. A NESO team will also visit Delhi just after the agitation program.
