IMPHAL, Feb 24: People of the state wouldn’t have to travel to Guwahati to apply for passport spending valuable money and time. The Manipur government has taken up all efforts to open a Passport Seva Kendra in Imphal at the earliest.

This was stated by the chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh during the first day of the 7th session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly today.

He continued that the old Assembly building will be leased out to the Ministry of External Affairs for the opening of the Passport office.

All process has been completed, he asserted.

Elaborating further, the CM who is also the leader of the House said that since the central ministry will take time in the recruitment process of staff for the office, the state will be providing the needed manpower in the initial stage.

The state has already provided three officers in the rank of deputy secretary, he said.

The officers will get at least two months training in Guwahati, he said before adding that once the training gets over, the office will start functioning.

A two day Passport Mela has been opened at the 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall, and such programs will be frequently conducted until the office at the Old Assembly building starts functioning, he observed.
