IMPHAL, February 24: A passport office will be coming up within the month of May, 2014 at the Old Secretariat, announced prinicipal secretary Home Dr J Suresh Babu today. Speaking to media persons during a two-day long Passport Mela he said hectic efforts are made at present for the opening of the passport office in the state.
The mela was organised by the chief passport officer under the aegis of the Ministry of External Affairs at the 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall today.
Suresh Babu said that in order to educate the people of the state, such passport mela will also be held until the new office is opened.
Anyone having the requirements and willingness can apply for their passport, he said. Joint secretary (Project Seva Project) and chief passport officer, Muktesh K Pardeshi said that the Ministry of External Affairs has approved the opening of the new passport office in the state.
The upcoming office will reduce the trouble that the people had to face while applying for their passport, he expressed.
The opening of the new passport office now lies with the state government and depends on the kind of pressure and initiation taken by the state government, he concluded.
