`Women more prone to Dementia`

IMPHAL, February 26: The inaugural function of the five days Orientation Training Programme on Dementia Care Management was held today at Manipur Press Club organized by the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India in collaboration with Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI).

Speaking as the chief guest, former dean, School of Social Sciences, Manipur University, Prof Ksh Bimola Devi said that it is symptoms of impairments to memory, communication and thinking.

She said people who are affected by dementia need proper care and love from their family and friends.

The number of people affected by dementia has increased every year, however, only 10 percent of the total affected is getting medical attention, she said.

Women are more prone to it, she added.

Former Director of Agriculture and former chairperson, Manipur State Social Welfare Board, RK Nayansana Devi said that there is a need to spread awareness on Dementia.

Dementia worsens with age, she observed.

It is not a normal sign of ageing, although it mainly happens to aged individuals, she continued.

Dementia is more prone to people who have been neglected by their family, she said.
