BJP launches poll campaign


IMPHAL, March 2: Two days after announcing the party’s candidates for both parliamentary constitutencies for the upcoming 16th Lok Sabha Election, the BJP Manipur Pradesh today inaugurated its campaign for the election.

The party had announced Dr RK Ranjan as its candidate from the inner constituency and Prof Gangmumei Kamei as the candidate for the outer constitutency.

The door-to-door campaign conducted by the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party for the forthcoming 16th Lok Sabha elections kick started at Lamlai constituency on Sunday.

The campaign led by vice-president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Manipur Pradesh, M Poireihanba started around 6 am. The state unit of the BJP covered 15 polling stations in Lamlai constituency such as Theiyong, Heirok, Nongdam, Okshu, Nongren, Nongpok Kakching, Napet Palli, Lamlai, Yaingangpokpi, Thamnapokpi, Soubungkhok, Sheijang, Telou, Channa and Chingnungpok villages with media persons in tow.

M Poireihanba, while interacting with the villagers during the campaign, told the media that the campaign was starting from Sunday after instructions from national party leaders to start campaigning.

“The campaign is conducted after the central parliamentary board announced the BJP candidates to contest the Lok Sabha polls. Campaigning in the inner Manipur constituency will continue for four more days to cover all the 36 constituencies,” he said, adding that after its completion, a mega election campaign-cum-meeting will be organised at Lamlai.

In the mega campaign-cum-meeting, the BJP candidate for inner Manipur constituency, Prof RK Ranjan along with party president and other leaders from the centre will be present.

Poireihanba observed that the wave of BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has reached Lamlai after watching the turnout of people at the campaign.

Laimayum Basanta, secretary, media affairs of the party and N Sakuntala Devi, president ,Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha Lamlai Mandal were also present in the campaign.

The former appealed to the public to let his party change the political atmosphere in the state after the upcoming elections with a constructive ruling party at the centre.
