IMPHAL, March 24: A day after eight constituent parties of the Left and Secular Alliance announced their candidates to be supported in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, JD(U) announces breaking away from the alliance and to support Trinamool Congress candidate for the inner seat today.
President M Tombi while announcing the breaking away declared that his party is leaving the alliance formed by 11 parties with immediate effect.
He has also resigned from the post entrusted to him in the alliance.
Addressing media persons at the Babupara office premise of the JD(U), Tombi further declared that along with Samata party, Manipur, his party will support Sarangthem Manaobi of All India Trinamool Congress for the inner seat.
However, for the Outer seat, the party will field its own candidate in Lemninlien Gangte alias Lein Gangte, he continued.
Elaborating on the decision to break away from the alliance, he said even though the 11 parties had formed the alliance with the hope to support a common candidate and win the inner seat, the attitude of the CPI was foul.
He alleged CPI of playing foul and plotting with other non-member parties belonging to the Third Front.
The outer constituency candidate of the National Congress Party found support from the Left and Secular Alliance, he bewailed.
He further charged the CPI for the party’s exit from the alliance.
Now, the alliance has a short lifespan, as it was the JD(U) which was holding it together, he commented.
Several parties are unhappy with the recent decision of the alliance, he further alleged.
Meanwhile, AITC candidate S Manaobi expressed his heartiest gratitude to the JD(U) and the Samata party for their support.
He said even though the CPI is considered the party for the poor and the farmers, the Trinamool Congress is fast gaining on them and becoming the pure secular and friend of the poor.
JD(U) Outer Constituency candidate Lemminlien Gangte said his first priority will be the tribal rights, issues of SoO for both hills and valley based outfits.
AFSPA and the international border issue will also be one of his main objectives, he asserted.
