Labourers rescued; police yet to identify abductors


IMPHAL, March 10: The two kidnapped labourers of the Assam based construction company allegedly by KNF-N suspects have been rescued by security forces early morning today from a village in Sadar Hills, Senapati district. However, there is still no official confirmation about the identity of the outfit involved.

The victim have been identified as one Deboshis Mondal, 34, son of Shyamsundar Mondal of Suri village, West Bengal, JCB operator and Roller operator, Ch Ajit Sinha, 29, son of Ch Arun of Rabvir Ghat Part-2, Cachar, Assam.

The rescued victims were produced during a press conference held at the Yairipok police station today.

Speaking to media persons, the officer in-charge divulged that following a formal complaint lodged by the company officials, the police reacted swiftly and conducted a series of rescue attempt in suspected areas which turned futile.

He further revealed that the police received a tip off that last night around 10:30 the abductor had brought the labourers at Chaningpokpi.

The duo were rescued during a search operation conducted by a combined team of Thoubal district police commandos and the personnel of Yairipok police from Chaningpokpi Vaiphei village of Sadar Hills, Senapati district around 6.45 am. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Thoubal SP, K Radhasyam and led by DSP (ops) Thoubal, Dr S Ibomcha. On getting prior information of the advancement of the police teams the abductor managed to flee abandoning the victims. The victims were found blindfolded and hands tied near the house of the village chief Seikhodam Khongsai, 65.

Interacting with the media persons, the victim informed that they were not harmed by the abductor. Even as the identity of the militants could not be established they were informed to be hill based militant.

The duo were kidnapped in the wee hour of March 2 from their makeshift camp at Somrei village under Ukhrul district day.
