BJP charges of mass proxy at Thoubal, Khundrakpam and Andro

IMPHAL, April 19:Charging that there were mass proxy voting during the April 17 election at several polling stations of Thoubal A/C in Thoubal district and Khundrakpam A/C and Andro A/C in Imphal East district, the BJP today said that a complaint will be lodged with the Election Commission of India within the next two-three days.

The party will demand that the EVMs from the said polling stations are not included during the counting of votes, said BJP, Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba during a press conference at the party office today.

He elaborated since the demand for re-poll at the polling stations has been rejected, the party is demanding non-inclusion of the EVMs in the counting of votes.

Th Chaoba also urged each and every candidate of the Lok Sabha election to affix the sealed locks of the strong rooms.

The No I Inner Manipur Parliamentary Election on April 17 was not free and fair at some assembly constituencies, he alleged.

A demand for repoll at a polling station in Thoubal has been denied, he asserted.

Elaborating further he said, people who were on election duty had casted twice, proxies for convicts in jail and people who were dead were also cast at the said polling stations.

Chaoba said his party has got all the evidence.

The highest number of proxy voting was reported at Thoubal assembly constituency, he claimed and elaborated that fake thumb impressions were used to sign the voter’s list.

He said officials failed to complain due to fear of the chief minister who is from the constituency.

He elaborated that in Andro assembly constituency polling station 7/18 the total polled percentage stood at 98.7 percent; at 7/38 the poll percentage stood at 98.7 percent; at 7/3 poll percentage stood at 93 percent.

However, during visits at the said polling stations on election day, voter turn out was not that high, he said.

He said the same goes for polling stations of Khundrakpam assembly constituency.

Nevertheless, the BJP will win the seat, he asserted.

BJP candidate Dr RK Ranjan said various foul play were also observed at the Khongampat assembly constituency polling stations.
