International Dance Day obseved at JNMD Academy

IMPHAL, April 30: The Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal celebrated the International Dance Day at its auditorium on Wednesday.

Fellow of Manipur State Kala Academy RK Danisana Singh,  JNMDA Vice-Chairman Prof. N Tombi Singh, Retd Pradhan Guru of JNMDA RH Daikho are the Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.

In his speech, RK Danisana said that International Dance Day is celebrated under UNESCO all over the world. Arts is the mainstay of culture and it is a life which we can`t left behind and is related to books, dances where the movements of music is visually shown as an important part of arts.

Adding that the government has not taken a policy of culture, he said that cultures don`t belong in the hands of the richest people.

RH Daikho urges the youth to not neglect their culture by imitating western culture. He also asked school students to not neglect their own culture, adding that retired Gurus of the dance college have to make an association to look after the cultural dances.

Prof. N Tombi said that the observation of the International Dance Day started on 1982 and over the last four to five years the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy started to celebrate the dance day as well.

The dance day is observed to realize the importance and ethics of dances. Arts needed support from people and scholars to it in the highest platform, he added.
