IMPHAL, April 28: A memorandum will be submitted on April 29 to the Governor of the State for immediate supply of necessary water to the general public without any delay by the state government. The concerned department should try to stop the mass deaths of domestic animals due to scarcity of water.
It was stated by BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba Singh at a press conference in the party’s office after a resolution was taken post an all political parties meeting on “Scarcity of Water in Manipur”.
Asserting that the demands must be met at the earliest, he said that if the government fails to do so various forms of agitation will commence, adding that if any untoward incidents happen due to scarcity of water the government must take full responsibility.
People in the state are facing scarcity of water while the government remains silent and hasn’t taken any steps for supplying water. Instead, they inspected Singda Dam and gauged the level of water, he stated.
Th Chaoba condemned the failure of the government in supplying water to the people and not arriving at any decisions to avail water in the state, before adding that the government have to arrange water tankers to supply sufficient water to the people and should not consider whether there is enough water or not in the dams or rivers.
Continuing that the scarcity of water in the state is due to lack of proper water harvesting, he alleged that ponds and canals have been filled up in the name of development and various projects to supply water have failed.
Manipur NCP general secretary S Iboyaima said that after being deeply concerned about the issue he visited the hills and border areas and found the people there facing the problem even more than the people in the valley.
He further said that an alarming situation arises if water scarcity continues various water born diseases will occur, which the state government keep on neglecting.
