UKHRUL, April 16: With a view to sensitise the public towards ensuring fire safety, the Ukhrul Fire Sub-station holds publicity campaign across the town in connection with the observance of `Fire Service Week` here.
As part of the week long observance, personnel of the district fire station moved around different localities of the town on a department fire tender appealing to the residents to be careful with domestic fire while handing out fire safety tracts.
The team also visited several commercial establishments like hotels, fuel outlets etc. in the market and provided them with proper tips to ensure safety in the day to day running of their businesses.
“This is not the first time we are doing this. We have been creating awareness about fire safety for the last many years, unfortunately, despite this, fire accidents often occur here each year,” laments officer in charge KS Johnson.
“We have even time and again asked business establishments especially, hotels and fuel outlets to keep fire extinguishers handy but so far none of them have complied with the directives,” Johnson continued while adding that people seem to be careless about these basic safety tips.
Asserting that fire accidents are preventable with proper knowledge and care, he further appealed to all to exercise care when using all forms of fire and not to leave fire unattended under any circumstances particularly during this dry wintry season.
As in other parts of Manipur and others states, the Ukhrul Fire Substation will continue the week long fire service observance — which began on April 14 — till April 20.
