IMPHAL, June 15: A painting competition on the theme ‘Our Farmers and Farm’ and a Free Watermelon Campaign were held today during the third State Level Water Melon Festival, at Iboyaima Shumang Lila Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal East. The programme was organised by Nahakpam Foundation for Development (NFD) under MIDH scheme of the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Govt of Manipur.
The competition is divided into two categories; viz. the first category from class III to V and the second category from class VI to VIII.
Speaking to media, Santa Singh Nahakpam, secretary of the foundation said that the main purpose of organising the painting competition is to provide knowledge of watermelon plants and make the students understand that it grows abundantly in Manipur.
He further said that they organised the competition mainly for children because they are innocent and honest and has lot of imagination in their minds. He told the media person that the result for the competition will be declared on Monday.
