IMPHAL, June 27: The Minister & Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan, Yasuhisa Kawamura stated that he will talk to the Japan Foundation which is in Delhi to deliver experts to Manipur University (MU) for the growth of the Japanese language in the State and to meet the lack of Japanese language teachers in Manipur University during a lecture on “Indo-Japan Relationship with reference to North Eastern Region” at Manipur University Court Room, jointly organized by Centre for Japanese Languages Studies, Imphal and Indo- Japan Friendship Association, on Friday.
On a visit in the state to attend the closing function of the 70th commemoration of the “Battle of Imphal”, Yasuhisa Kawamura continued that the “Battle of Imphal” is well remembered in Japan, couldn’t be forgotten.
He informed the gathering that the New York Times had asked him about the relation between Japan and Manipur in a telephonic interview and whether people had forgotten about the “Battle of Imphal” which is well remembered even to this day by the people of Japan.
Highlighting the huge influence of India in its culture and religion as both the countries are getting close in the political and economic arena, he said that after World War II both the countries have started diplomatic relations for mutual development.
The population of Japanese people in the country is increasing in Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, and Mumbai. In Japan, there are 520 Indian students and 80 thousand Chinese students whereas only 100 Japanese students are getting education in various Universities in the country, he said, adding that Japanese industrialists are keen to tie-up with Indian industries.
Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, Prof H Nandakumar Singh appealed the Minister& Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan to act on the issue of lack of Japanese language teachers for the establishment of Japanese language classes.
