IMPHAL, June 5: Four people have lost their lives and eight others injured in separate road accidents in the State during the last 24 hours.
In the first incident, two 60-year-olds were knocked down by a speeding passenger Tata Winger yesterday night around 7.30pm at Laikhong Mayai Laikai under Kumbi police Station, Bishnupur district.
Family members of the two victims said Koijam Tomba, 60, son of (L) Angou of Ithai Lowkhong Mayai Leikai and Leishangthem Damu, 60, son of (L) Leibak of Wangoo Napaching were walking along the Moirang Kumbi Road at Laikhong Mayai Leikai when the speeding Tata Winger bearing regd number MN 05-A-2169 knocked them down seriously injuring the two.
Both of them were rushed to the hospital, the relatives said and added Tomba succumbed on the way while Damu died at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences today around 3am.
Family members have claimed the bodies after the conduct of post mortem at the RIMS Morgue.
Meanwhile, police have taken up a case regarding the incident and seized the Tata Winger involved in the incident.
In the second incident, a Bajaj Pulsar Bike driven by an 18 year old with thw pillion riders rammed into a parked Tata Dipper, on the roadside near Yurembam NS Brick Field under Patsoi police station, killing the driver on the spot.
The accident occurred around 1pm yesterday.
The two pillion riders were also injured and admitted at the RIMS.
The deceased youth has been identified as Amom Sunilkanta 18 son of A Inaobi of Tabungkhok Makha leikai and the two injured youth has been identified as Thongam Kishan, 18, son of Th Netra and Thongam Suraj, 18, son of Onil both from Tabungkhok Makha Leikai.
In another road accident, a Maruti Swift collided head on with a Passenger Auto along the Tiddim Road at Ngakchou under Bishnupur Police leaving a passenger of the Auto dead, while four others from both vehicles injured.
Sources said the accident occurred around 8am, when the passenger Auto bearing registration number MN 05-5586 with three passengers on board plying from Bishnupur to Ningthoukhong and heading towards Bishnupur collided with the Maruti Swift coming from the opposite direction.
The dead is yet to be identified.
Three persons from the auto including the driver and the driver of the Maruti Swift were injured and admitted at RIMS, while the body has been deposited at the JNIMS morgue for identification and post mortem.
Police have taken up a case regarding the incident.
