IMPHAL, June 11: The State cabinet today approved a one time relaxation in the Education Service Rules, 2012 besides formation of the “Manipur Tourism Development Society” a Government undertaking to encourage substantial benefit from the tourism potential of the State.
The cabinet sitting convened this afternoon around 2 pm was chaired by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
Briefing the media in this regard, government spokesperson and CAF&PD minister, M Okendro divulged that despite having huge tourism potential, the tourism industry in the state is unable to reap maximum benefit.
Realising the root cause of the issue, the government hasdevised a way to develop tourism industry by introducing the society which would also create job opportunities for the youth and boost the economy of the State, he saod.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi who also holds the tourism portfolio, will be the chairman while parliamentary secretary (tourism) will be the vice chairman and principal secretary (tourism) will serve as the chairman of the executive committee, informed the spokesperson.
To give more thrust to the initiative, the government would give more emphasis on intensive publicity campaign, continued Oken.
The society will be run on Grant in Aid from the State government/Planning department and agency charge recieved from the work agencies, he said
Elaborating further on the agendas of the meeting, he said, the cabinet has approved the one time relaxation of Rule 5 of the Manipur Education Services Rules, 2012.
He said, under the rules, 53 posts of deputy inspector of schools (Manipur Education Service Grade II) are to be recruited, of which 26 are supposed to be filled through promotion from grade III.
The remaining 27 posts are to be directly recruited through limited competitive examination, he asserted.
He further informed that a requisition for the direct recruitment of the 27 posts has been sent to the MPSC on June 4.
He added that promotion to MES grade II from rade III are to be made for regular employees who have atleast served as DI/AI for five years.
However, at present there is no such AI/DI in the State, and will not be there till about 2019/20, he added.
So the cabinet has decided to make a one time relaxation and all recruitment will be done through open competition, he said.
Other agendas deliberated during the meeting include compensating the family of deceased URF cadres who was found buried inside the Loitang Khunou Spinning Mill (temporary designated camp), deceased victim of Singjamei Chingamakhong blast (one lakh each) and 50,000 for injured.
Meanwhile, the meet also further approved the Tourism Policy, 2014 and also Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Diversion) Rules, 2014 etc.
