Awareness programme on Indo-Myanmar border trade held at CCpur

LAMKA, September 16: A one day awareness programme on the Indo-Myanmar trade and Look East Policy was held at the District Training Center Hall, Churachandpur today.

The function was organised by the Indo-Myanmar Borders Traders’ Union (IMBTU) Imphal in collaboration with Churachandpur deputy commissioner and sponsored by the Directorate of Commerce and Industry, government of Manipur.

Attending the function as the chief guest, deputy commissioner PK Jha said he had been to the major trade center along the Indo-Myanmar border at Moreh and was impress with the pace of trade there.

He expressed his belief that developing the trade center would be good for the economy of the State.

“There is not much crowd today as we would have love to, but I have high hopes that everyone present including the media will help in spreading the message of the programme,” he said.

Around 50 delegates of the IMBTU took the lead during today’s programme in deliberating on the importance of improving and promoting the Indo-Myanmar trade.

Certain arrangements have been made to promote the border trade, said director general of Foreign Trade, Anupp K Pujari in a press handout.

The existing arrangement for number of commodities/ items under the Indo-Myanmar border trade has been revised and increased to 62 items with the addition of 22 new items, it said.

The newly added 22 items permissible for trade along the border are agricultural items (machinery/ equipment/ tools), bicycle, bleaching powder, coal, edible oil, electrical and electric appliance, fabricated steel product, garment/readymade, handloom and handicraft items, hardware/ minor construction materials and electric fitting, lime, medicines, milk powder, tea, edible oil and beverage, motorcycle and its spare parts, other item such as electronic and musical instruments, stationary items torch light, plastic items, water tank, bucket, chair, plastic pipe and briefcase, rice, wheat, maize, millet and oats, scented tobacco, semi-precious stones, sewing machine, textile fabric, three wheelers/cars below 1000cc.
