IMPHAL, September 25: Manipur Pradesh BJP president Thounoujam Chaoba has stated that stern actions will be taken soon against those individuals including members of the State unit of the BJP who were involved in the brazen attempt to character assassinate him.
He said charges levelled against him for taking a bribe of Rs 1 crore were pre-planned with the intention of casting aspersions on his character.
Chaoba continued that if Hueiyen Lanpao or the Statesman could not prove the veracity of the corruption charges he will take actions against them adding that he is willing to go to jail if they are able to prove that the corruption charges against him are correct.
He was speaking at the commemoration of the 98th birth anniversary of Pandit Din Dayal Upadhyaya, the first president and founder of BJP.
The matter is serious because corruption scams are prevalent all over the nation. In such a situation, the dissident group of BJP leaders still camping at Delhi for replacing me has got the support of the Congress, he said adding that the dissident group is still staying and enjoying Manipur Bhawan hospitality in New Delhi when as per the norms no individual can stay for more than seven days there.
They have stayed there for four months now and this cannot be possible without the blessings of the Congress government in the State, he adds.
Claiming that it is the first time in the history of the State among all the political parties that a dissident group has stayed put in Delhi for replacing its State president, he said. He added he has sent evidence and documents to the Central leaders about the activities of the dissidents in his capacity as the State president.
Suspension or show cause notice to the senior members have been issued by the executive members and sent to the Manipur In-charge Tapir Gao but if they tender an apology to the party than the suspension can be revoked, the State BJP president said.
He said a leader is not perfect and there will be some opposition to the leader too.
`The allegation against me is an attempt to malign my reputation and I don`™t believe that an investigative agency could have shown confidential evidence to just about anybody`, he said.
The allegations against me are baseless and were levelled with the intent of character assassination to damage a reputation earned in a political career spanning over 50 years and after having served as a Union minister and as cabinet minister under five different Chief Ministers, he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi`™s mission includes eradicating corruption and we are hoping that mission proves to be successful, Thounaojam Chaoba said.
He said he is privy to propaganda among party members that electoral defeat looms for the BJP in the Hiyanglam bye-poll.
But, let me make it clear that the Hiyanglam bye-polls will be the first ever victory for the BJP after the NDA government assumed power.
Meanwhile, BJP vice president Meinam Bhorot said that the upcoming election will not be easy as they are going to fight the ruling Congress in the Hiyanglem bye-polls.
