IMPHAL, September 20: Proscribed outfit People’s Revolutionary party of Kangleipak, PREPAK has wished the people of Manipur on the occasion of International Day of Peace observed on September 21.
A press release of the outfit signed by its assistant secretary publicity and propaganda, Leibak Ngakpa Luwang said the people of the land have failed to get a taste of living in a peaceful surrounding due to the oppression and aggression of the colonial rulers.
It said the outfit understands that the people of the land have a bigger role to play in world movement for peace.
The United Nations celebrated the first International Day of Peace on September 21, 1982 at its headquarter at New York with the clinging of the “Peace bell” after taking resolution 36/37 in 1981, it said.
The bell was made of coins contributed by children from all over the world excluding Africa and was gifted to the United Nations by the United Nations Association of Japan, it said and added that the bell is still considered as the souvenir of the price for the lives lost in wars, it said.
The statement further said that people living under colonial rule cannot find peace and based on this, the United Nations after the Second World War declared the Universal Declaration of Human Rights-1948.
On December 14, 1960 the United Nations General Assembly also taken its Resolution no 1514 (XV) the “Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and People,” it said.
The United Nations allows people of a colonised land to use any means and revolt against its colonial rulers for freedom, it said and added that on October 12, 1972 the UN General Assembly had taken resolution 2621 for member countries to support any such movement.
