IMPHAL, September 1: In the aftermath of the August 30 incident at Ukhrul town, when two persons were killed in police firing to control a rally, the United Naga Council has announced an indefinite ban on all vehicular traffic along National and State highways in Naga inhabited areas. According to a statement of the UNC, the ban which would commence from 6am of September 4 also includes an indefinite ban on all construction works of all national projects.

It said during the funeral service of Mayopam Ramror and Ramkashing Vashi today, UNC reiterated the political boycott of the Manipur government in Naga areas.

The ban on the highways and the national projects will be “till such time the Government of India makes a political intervention on our situation,” it claimed, adding that educational, medical, power and the media will be exempted from the purview of the stricture.

The UNC has also decided to submit the decisions to the Prime Minister of India for his immediate political intervention, it said.
