IMPHAL, October 16: A noted social worker of the state particularly among the tribal communities Thangkam Lupheng was conferred the Dr BR Ambedkar National Award 2014 for `Social Work` by The Dalit Sahitya Academy, New Delhi on Thursday.
The 3rd Rastriya Dalit Sahitya Samman Sammelan 2014 was held today at Manipur Press Club, where a representative from the Dalit Sahitya Academy, New Delhi conferred the award in a form of citation and a Certificate of honour to the social worker. Social activist Rose Mangshi Haokip was also awarded with the Swami Vivekananda National Award 2014 for `Education and Literature` at the same function.
Thangkam Lupheng of Nungkha village, Sadar Hill in Senapati district is the president of Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkhai president as well as the general secretary of Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas Manipur (CoPTAM).
