LAMKA, October 2: As part of the `Swachh Bharat Abhiyan`™ campaign launched by the Prime Minister of India, a cleanliness drive was conducted today on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Churachandpur district.
The army, police, students and volunteers of different civil organisations including local communities took part in the cleanliness drive.
Churachandpur police led by its SP Kabib and SDPO Sangboi of Thanlon cleaned the campus of CCpur District hospital. The police also cleaned areas of Tuibang and Lamka town led by OC MA Salam.
The drive had already kicked off two day prior to October 2. Major road intersections in Lamka town wore a tidy look today.
Police and students had also joined hands in cleaning areas of Singhat Sub-division.
Many commuters, shopkeepers and locals of Lamka lauded the initiative of the police, saying that the drive was one of the finest works taken up by the police, besides their law enforcing duty.
VDF personnel numbering around 50 have also been taking part in the three-day long cleanliness drive along with the locals.
Many schools like Phungkhothang, Vimala Raina High School located in the town and others also organised cleanliness drives in their respective schools, where they swept and trimmed the grass in their school premises, while private schools like Young Learners School organised a fete today.
Meanwhile, the Churachandpur Environment Society, CES, observed the day by planting tree saplings at Lamka town, alongside streets of New Bazar area were also cleaned, according to the convener of CES.
