Weeklong Festive Fair begins at Porompat

IMPHAL, October 3: Every handloom product should be produced in high-quality and must indicate its brand, stated National Handloom Development Council officer-in-charge Y Shantikumar Singh today. He was delivering his speech as the guest of honour in the opening function of the Mera Houchongba Festive Fair at Porompat.

Altogether 80 stalls were set up for the weeklong festive fair being organised by the District Handlooms and Textiles Office, Imphal East District at the Campus of Food Processing Training Hall, Porompat.

Shantikumar said all the handloom production societies should think about producing new products as they would be approach by volunteers of many Melas.

However, we should know the chief materials while producing new products, he added.

He also said that all the cluster and weaver corporative societies which attend the mela have come to sell their handloom products.

Officer on Special Duty (H/L) District Handlooms and Textile, Imphal East, P Meenakumari said that the Mera Houchongba Festive Fair is participated by 27 clusters from Imphal East District and various corporative societies from others districts.

She said handloom production is progressing successfully in our State with marketing facilities.

The opening function was graced by the Additional Director DIC, Toijam Rajen Singh as the chief guest, Officer on Special Duty (H/L) District Handlooms and Textile, Imphal East, P Meenakumari Devi as the president while NHDC Manipur`™s Officer in Charge Y Shantikumar Singh, Assistant Director (Weaving) Sandeep P Thubrikar and president HERICOUN Longjam Ratankumar as the guests of honors.
