UKHRUL, Oct 1: With an aim to promote a clean and hygienic environment, the Zingtun Tangkhul Katamnao Long (ZTKL) conducted a cleanliness drive in collaboration with the Small Town Committee (STC) of ADC Ukhrul on Wednesday in Ukhrul town.
Held under the theme `Go Clean` the drive was participated by both members of ZTKL and staff of STC-ADC with the participants mowing road-side bushes and getting down to remove trash accumulating in and around the town. They also cleaned up drainage channels along the sides of the town`™s main road.
`We are doing our mite in promoting clean and hygienic environment,` said ZTKL president AC Thotso while urging the town`™s denizens to maintain cleanliness in their respective surroundings.
Asserting that this is a maiden move on the part of the students`™ body, he said that ZTKL would continue to work towards fostering clean civic environment of the town.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters on the sideline, executive officer STC Leiyaphy said that it takes public cooperation for the STC to fulfil the waste management guidelines.
She said that some people have also become habitual to indiscriminately dumping animal or butcher`™s waste at roadside dumpster.
STC-ADC offered the service of its dumper truck for the drive which began at 7 am and continued till noon. All the collected garbage and waste particles were later disposed of at the STC dumping site located inside the old jail complex along the Jessami route.
