Bullet proof AR truck runs into IED trap, no casualty

IMPHAL, November 12: Suspected UG cadres launched a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack this morning against an Assam Rifles vehicle barely a day after two personnel of the F Company of the 26 Assam Rifles including an officer were killed and three others severely injured in a bomb attack followed by a fierce gun battle at Behiang Village under the Singhat subdivision of Churachandpur district.

According to police sources, today’s attack occurred at around 11.30 am when a Quick Response Team (QRT) of the 9 Assam Rifles in Moreh was going to another of their posts at Holenphai in a Bullet Proof Truck.

The Bullet proof truck was carrying a lot of AR personnel. However, none of the personnel were injured as they were travelling in the Bullet Proof Truck.

Some portions of the front of the truck were partially damaged by splinters of the bomb. The incident happened when the truck was three and a half km away from the AR post in Holenphai.

Some high ranking AR officials and a police team rushed to the spot and carried out a search operation. However, no arrests were made in connection with the incident till the filing of this report.

The identities of the two personnel of the F Company of the 26 Assam Rifles who were killed in an ambush attack yesterday have been verified after post mortem analyses.

The deceased warrant officer of the F Company of 26 AR has been verified as Prabir Sharma, 48, with the service number G/ 2601105-A,from Durga Nagar in Tripura’s capital Agartala. The other deceased personal has been identified as Tarun Ram Charai, 24, with the rifleman number g/5019783 from Nakuti Gaon in Assam’s Bokajan town.

Their dead bodies have been taken back by the authorities of the Assam Rifles from the police to be handed over to their family members after the post-mortem analysis.
