MUSU revived after long hibernation, new executive body elected

IMPHAL, November 12: Since many years the Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) which has remained suspended and defunct will be reactivated in the academic year 2014-2015. Election of office bearers to the union was held today with the permission of the MU authority.

The voting started at 9am and ended peacefully at around 2pm. In all 35 candidates from 13 departments contested for several posts, however, 19 councillors, games & sports, vice president, social & culture won uncontested.

For the year 2014-2015 Sarangthem David has been elected as president, Debina as vice president, RK Pritamkumar as general secretary and Nevedasko as finance.

Speaking to media persons during an interaction session, convenor of Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) Revival Committee (RDC) Th Suresh said today’s election came after unrelenting campaign by the MUSU RDC for the reviving of MUSU since last year.

He lauded students who voted and said he that is immensely happy that their demands have been met, and added this will provide a platform for the students to protect their rights as students.

It may be mention that during the 18th convocation of MU, the students submitted memorandum by MUSU RDC to the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee to revival of MUSU during the academic session of 2014-15.

A candidate of the election said that the reviving of MUSU is a happy occasion for all and he is hopeful the MUSU will work for the welfare and benefit of students.
