Food Safety drive at Sangai Festival

IMPHAL, November 25: A team of the Food Safety and Standards Enforcement wing under the department of Health led by designated officer food safety cum chief medical officer, Imphal West Dr S Bimola Kumari conducted a survey of the Sangai Festival food stalls and distributed free disposable hand gloves, mask and caps to the stall owners.

Although some stalls were found already using the disposable gloves and masks, there were others which were not using them.

During the survey, the team also checked the health conditions of the chefs. Food stalls were also checked for their Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, FSSAI certificate.

According to Dr Bimola, the Rules and Regulations of Food Safety Standard Act, 2006 was implemented on August 5, 2011 and it is the duty of the department to survey the food stalls at the festival.

She said it is necessary to check how the food items are prepared and if the standards under rules and regulations of the Act are properly maintained.
