IMPHAL, November 12: The Medical Council of India, Post Graduate Medical Education Committee, which made a Compliance Verification Assessment Report (19.06.2014) and compliance along with Assessment Report (April, 2013) “on the standard of examination and other teaching facilities for Recognition of MS(General Surgery) qualification against increased intake from 8 to 16 seats at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal granted by Manipur University,” has decided to recommend not to recognize RIMS MS(Surgery) qualification against this increased intake.
This was stated in a report of the council, under notification number (No.MCI-4(3)/2014-Med./).
The reasons given by the notification are:
1. Bed occupancy is 60 percent on the day of assessment.
2. SICU is shared with general ICU which is under renovation.
3. Dr. G.S. Moirangthem, Professor & HOD has no experience as Asso. Prof. in General Surgery and therefore his promotion as Professor is not as per regulation. His experience in Gastro Intestinal surgery department cannot be equated with that in General Surgery department.
4. Weekly operative load is only 10 Major and 20 minor Surgeries, which is very less.
5. Other deficiencies as pointed on the Assessment Report.
