IMPHAL, November 24: The All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers`™ Welfare Association has said that the Workshop on Meetei Mayek Proficiency of the teachers of Manipuri (MIL) and Elective Manipuri for Classes XI and XII of the Council was held. The programme was jointly sponsored by Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur, MEELAL and Private School Welfare Association.
According to a release of the association, the workshop is held for 10 days each for all phases. The 1st phase of the workshop was held from November 3-12 and the 2nd phase from November 13-22. The 3rd phase was started from November 24 and will conclude on December 3. The resource persons were Dr. P. Gunendro, N. Naokhamba and Dr. Romesh, it said.
The workshop was attended by teachers from Government Higher Secondary Schools, Private Secondary and Private and Aided schools and colleges.
In the 1st phase 45 teachers took part and 60 teachers took part in the 2nd phase. The workshop is the 1st of its kind to be held in the state. However, organisers clarified the main aim of the workshop has not been achieved yet as 10 days is not enough for the most of the teachers who knew only Bengali alphabets.
Refresher courses will also be held for the teachers as with the coming of Academic Session, 2015, it will be made a necessity for teachers to learn prose and poems and grammars in Meetei Mayek.
In this regard, it appealed to the Education Minister to grace the ongoing workshop to interact with the teachers. It has also been appealed to those teachers who failed to turn up for the 1st and 2nd to attend the 3rd phase of the workshop, it said.
