9th session of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly begins

IMPHAL, December 18: The 9th session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly commenced from today.

The opening session of the Winter Session which will have three sessions, saw an obituary reference on the demised of Maibam Kunjo Singh, AITC MLA from Hiyanglam constituency.

The obituary reference was opened by the leader of the house Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, who described the demise as untimely. He said he shared the pain and loss with the bereaved family.

The Chief Minister recalled that the late MLA was first elected in 1974 to the 2nd Manipur Legislative Assembly on the MPP ticket and followed this up by another win in 1995 to the 6th Manipur Legislative Assembly on the Janata Dal ticket wherein he was minister in charge of RD and PR, DIPR, Vety and Animal Husbandry of the then Government.

He was again re-elected in 7th Assembly in 2000 on the MSCP ticket and further held the key portfolios of various departments including commerce and industries however the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly became his last win.

The Chief Minister claimed that late MLA was a simple man and who served his people sincerely while describing him to be a very jolly and composed leader.

His untimely demise will leave a huge vacuum in the society, one which cannot be easily filled, said the Chief Minister and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace at the heavenly abode.

The obituary reference was also participated by Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, AITC MLA Dr I Ibohalbi, AITC MLA Th Shyamkumar, AITIC MLA Kh Joykishan, Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam, Wangkhem MLA, P Brojen, Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Hiyanglam MLA Elangbam Dwijamani. A two minute silence was also observed by the house in honour of the late MLA.
