CHANDEL, December 1: All efforts are being put in to complete construction work of the Chandel district sports complex at Chandel Christian by December this year, however, what has raised concern is the filling of earth without drainage beneath the ground.
The concerned department had set the deadline during a visit of the then State Governor VK Duggal on June 6, 2014. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh had also inspected the construction on June 12 and had assured while inaugurating the district Mini Secretariat that the sports complex would be completed by December this year.
A team of the Chandel Naga People`™s Organisation Development and Monitoring Cell along with the chief of Chandel Christian and the media had inspected the construction work on November 29.
Speaking to media persons, CNPO president Ws Kanral Anal questioned how the department and the contractors can allow such a thing.
He demanded proper investigation and further alleged the department of failing to properly inspect the construction work. He said neither the contractor involved nor the SO of the department were present at the work site during the inspection.
Kanral further warned of a strong protest in case the department fails to rectify the defect, while stating that the people cannot hope to benefit from the sports complex even if it is completed in time if there is no drainage beneath the ground.
With the hope of meeting the deadline, civil society organisations of the district led by the Chandel Naga People`™s Organisation Development Monitoring Cell have been monitoring the progress of work.
It may also be mentioned that the 41-Chandel MLA St Nunghlung Victor accompanied by the then deputy commissioner in charge Kshetrimayum Robert Singh had also inspected the site on October 2 and showed displeasure with the quality of the drainage beneath the ground and instructed all concerned not to compromise with quality.
