Gov witholds Govindaji Temple (third amendment) Bill

IMPHAL, December 18: The Governor of Manipur has withheld his assent to the controversial Shri Shri Govindaji Temple (third amendment) Bill, 2014 that was unanimously passed during the previous session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

The report on the status of the Bill was tabled by Akoijam Tiken, secretary Manipur Legislative Assembly, on the floor of the House during opening session of the Winter Session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

In all a total of six Bills were passed by the House since 2012 of which only four Bills received the assent of the Governor including Manipur Appropriation (no.3) Bill, 2014 on July 31, 2014; Salary and Allowances of MLAs (Manipur), 20th amendment Bill, 2014 on August 11, 2014, Salary and Allowances of Ministers (Manipur), 12th amendment Bill, 2014 on August 11, 2014 and the conservation of paddy land and wetlands Bill, 2014 on August 29, 2014.

The Manipur Protection of Depositors (in financial establishments) Bill, 2012 which is one of the six Bills has also been withheld by the president of the Union of India.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also tabled the 11th report of the Business Advisory Committee, 2014 on the floor of the house besides tabling four different papers including Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Manipur and Mizoram (Standard of Performance for distribution and Transmission Licensees) Regulations, 2014, Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Manipur and Mizoram (Multi-year Tariff) Regulations, 2014, Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Manipur and Mizoram (Grid Code) (First Amendment), Regulations, 2014 and Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Manipur and Mizoram (Terms and Conditions for Tariff Determination from Renewable Energy Sources) (first amendment) Regulation, 2014.
