`Judiciary alone cannot mitigate crime against women`

IMPHAL, December 12: Manipur State Commission for Women, MSCW today celebrated its 8th foundation day at its office building at DC office Complex, Imphal West, Lamphelpat.

Manipur State Advisory Board Chairperson N Leibaklopi Devi, Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson, A Nabachandra Singh and MSCW Chairperson, Dr L Ibetombi Devi graced the foundation day celebration as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.

Chief Guest of the function delivering her speech said that many Acts have been imposed to abolish crimes against women but unfortunately there is witness of decrease in crime in the State.

She appealed that people should extend cooperation to the commission in fighting against crime against women. She continued that MSCW alone cannot go forward with the investigation until community support is extended.

She said that active participation of women in spreading awareness programme is the need of the hour to fight against escalating crimes against women in the State.

She added that more awareness programmes at the grass root level is needed whether they are carried out by the Social Welfare Department or MSCW, to safeguard and train the women in asserting themselves.

Presiding over the function, Dr L Ibetombi Devi said that awareness programmes must be initiated in every corner of the State and amongst every women society. She noted that home is the best institute to guide and groom every individual, though one can also learn from the larger environment.
