THOUBAL, December 11: Amidst much hue and cry over the rapid increase in various forms of crimes against women and children in the State, a woman was allegedly raped by her brother-in-law at Tekcham last night.
This morning around 10, angered locals formed a mob and vandalised the house of the accused and decided to drive him out of the locality.
The 38-year old alleged rapist Langpoklakpam Sanjoy son of L Udhop of Tekcham bazaar Maning Moirangthem Leirak is said to be living with his third wife after he got separated with his earlier two wives. He has also three sons from his first wife and a daughter from his third wife.
According to the husband of the victim, he was staying with his wife at their fish farm at Lousipat for the past few days which is adjacent to his brother`™s (accused) farm.
Last night, he had left his wife and his two young sons at the farm which is about 300 metres from their house and came back to get dinner for both himself and his wife, he said.
As he was waiting for the dinner at their house, he met his brother who asked him if he wasn`™t going to the farm at which he replied that he was waiting for the dinner and will go after sometime, the victim`™s husband said.
He said after hearing his reply, the accused said he would go then and left.
However after some time, his wife came running and recounted that she had been raped by his brother, he said.
On hearing about the incident, family members rushed to the farm and found the accused, he said.
It is also learnt that the accused had threatened the woman against telling anyone about the incident.
He further said that according to his wife, she had lied that she will not tell anyone about the incident to the accused in order to escape.
The accused was arrested this morning by a team of Khongjom Police and later handed over to the police.
In the morning, locals of the area gathered and vandalised the residence of the accuse
The locals also demanded punishment of the accused.
